Encouragement - Hide the Red Pen
“Human flourishing depends, not on one’s material well-being or adjustment to society, but on one’s relation to the true, the good, and the beautiful.” - Paul Drake
As parents, the future of our children is constantly at the front of our minds. Will they have enough? Do they have too much? Are they well liked? Are they achieving enough? This week as you sit down to educate your children, bring to the front of your mind their heart and soul. Do they know what is True? Can they do what is Good? Do they love what is Beautiful? The answers to these questions are far greater than the former. As you flash phonogram cards, review dates in history, recite poetry, dwell on their character and their virtue as well as their success in these things. Shield them from your checklist and invite them into perseverance, curiosity, and diligence. Hide the red pen and show them where true joy in education can be found.
Sincerely,
