Light and Truth

Jim McCormick, Head of School

Vocatio

Dear Classical Families,

You may recall me stating that our approach to a Christ-centered, classical, and collaborative education involves intentional training toward helping students find God’s vocatio, or calling, for their individual lives. This effort has begun in earnest this school year with our current 8th grade class which I’ve been privileged to teach two hours a week this semester.

In 8th grade Humanities B, through our study of the Gospel of John and Athanasius' On the Incarnation, we have explored a deep relationship with Jesus Christ through His deity as the Logos and His incarnation as 100% God, 100% man. Then, through one of the greatest epics ever, The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, we have explored themes of faithfulness, perseverance, and loyalty all resulting in a semester capstone project in which the 8th graders will write an essay showing how a community rooted in the Gospel is able to journey through dark places - together. We intend for this thematic, intentional approach to happen more and more all over our campus and in your homes each day, Co-Teachers. I can’t wait!

Each Monday and Wednesday morning before we open those doors to your glorious faces at 7:55, I say this to our teachers and staff: “Work hard. Smile a lot. Make Disciples.”

I’m encouraged and humbled to tell you that across grade levels, in every classroom at Classical School of Dallas, your children are being given the opportunity to to grow as sincere followers of Jesus Christ for the rest of their lives. Passionate, talented, and called teachers who love and follow Jesus are stewarding their little corner market of truth, beauty, and goodness to shepherd the hearts of our students toward human flourishing as God our Father defines it.

I’m tremendously excited and humbled by all that God is doing through Classical School of Dallas. Stay tuned this coming week as we announce the opening of next year's re-enrollment process and share the plan for the commencement of our Rhetoric School in 2023-2024!

Respectfully in Christ,
Jim P. McCormick, M.Ed.
Blessed to be Head of School
