Light and Truth

Jim McCormick, Head of School

Legacy Over Legend

Dear Classical Community,

Several weeks ago, I challenged us to cultivate an ethos of gratitude at our school. As the Rhetoric School launches in August and initiatives like our House system, which we have titled Legacy Over Legend, are established, let’s praise Him. I want to once again remind us of what God has called us to instill in every student from PreK to 12th grade: our Portrait of a Graduate.

  • Love truth, goodness, and beauty and recognize Christ as the source.

  • Apply biblical worldview to learning and living; pursue a growing faith in Jesus Christ.

  • Read deeply, listen thoroughly, and reason truthfully.

  • Speak and write charitably with wisdom and eloquence.

  • Engage creation with wonder.

  • Work diligently, serve faithfully and act for the good of others.

  • Seek to develop and deploy individual gifts and passions in God’s redemptive story.

On May 8, students, co-teachers, and teachers in Logic School (grades 5-8) will attend the 1st Annual Legacy Luncheon at which Classical teachers will present each of the final eight candidates for the Classical School of Dallas House System. Here is an excerpt from our Classical School of Dallas House System Guide:

Classical School of Dallas’ Houses are named after historic families who have collectively made heroic and lasting contributions as Christ followers. These faithful Christians embody the four cardinal virtues of prudence, justice, temperance and fortitude, thereby demonstrating the courageous and virtuous living we desire to instill in our students.

Then on Wednesday, May 10, students in grades 5-8 will vote for the final four House names. Each of their votes will be counted twice. Also on Wednesday, May 10, a voting form will be sent to the Classical Community; each vote will count once. Voting will close on May 15 at 11:59 p.m. House names will be announced at the Narnia Party on May 17.

Respectfully in Christ,
Jim McCormick, M.Ed
